Poem for our first-born
Your entry into this world has changed us.
As you passed through me, time stood at attention; you captivated us with your cries, your skin, your hair, your eyes.
What I knew from within me was suddenly outside. Your wriggly body not a gentle thud or roll from within any longer.
Quicker than I ever thought possible our great wonder was in our arms.
How could you be so strong? So small? So long? Nothing like this world at all?
Sprawled across my belly a gooey, great love washed me as your eyes met mine. Our oneness still tethered to your pulsating cord.
Your daddy held me close and I finally sunk into his chest.
We did it.
You are here.
